Jesse van der Velde
Health coach since 2006. Author of 17 books. Founder of BioProfile.
I have helped people live healthier for more than 20 years. I started as a personal trainer in 2006. I am the author of two #1 bestsellers. Now I measure myself: biological age, testosterone, around 150 biomarkers. And I share what I do online. So you can create your own life with lots of energy, stay healthy until the day you die, and potentially live longer.

About Jesse
Jesse van der Velde (1986) completed his studies in Sport and Movement in Groningen in 2006, with diplomas as Fitness Trainer A and B and in Sports Massage. That same year he moved to Belgium and started as a personal trainer. He trained under the late strength coach Charles Poliquin: Biosignature in 2007, then PICP Levels 1, 2 and 3. From Poliquin he learned how nutrition, training and hormones work together.
In 2008 he took that knowledge online, and from 2009 he coached people over the internet. Between 2008 and 2014 he attended several longevity and anti-ageing conferences in the United States and Belgium. Since then he has helped more than 600,000 people in the Netherlands and Belgium with their health.
His first book, Voor altijd jong (Forever Young), came out in 2012. It became a number 1 bestseller. The same year he started Superfoodies and Rawcreation. A year later came Superfoodrecepten (Superfood Recipes): number 1 in the cookbook top 5, and the start of the superfood wave in the Netherlands. After that he wrote books on the gut, skin, the immune system, protein, eating green and his personal journey with two shaman mentors.
Between 2014 and 2016 he built one of the first health scans in the Netherlands with BioProfile. More than 15,000 people took the scan, and several thousand received personal coaching. The company was ahead of its time. In 2026 Jesse brought BioProfile back, now with a scientifically validated questionnaire, blood testing through a laboratory and an explanation from a doctor.
At forty, Jesse is starting again, as an explorer rather than a guru. He measures around 150 biomarkers with one goal: lowering his biological age. He shares every result, including the disappointing ones.

Has Jesse van der Velde been criticised?
Yes. Around 2014, when the superfood wave began in the Netherlands, superfoods drew a lot of criticism. They were dismissed as "super nonsense", because there was little scientific evidence for them at the time. Some of what Jesse wrote came from old traditions and from the experience of the people who had used these foods for centuries, rather than from research.
Jesse learned from that. Since then he has taken much more time to back every text and publication with science. His intention has always stayed the same: to truly help people with their health. And he believes there must be room for pioneers: without people who explore new ground, science does not move forward. Notably, much of the criticism at the time was not based on research either.
This page sells nothing and mentions no products. The examples below are foods Jesse already wrote about in his books from 2012 to 2014, when there was little research on them. In the ten to twelve years since, they have gained much stronger scientific support. They are here as examples of his role as a pioneer.
Cocoa
- 21,442 older adults took an extract with 500 mg of cocoa flavanols a day. They died 27% less often from cardiovascular disease. The total number of cardiovascular events did not fall significantly. (COSMOS, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2022)
- 90 older adults drank cocoa rich in flavanols for eight weeks. They were faster on attention tests, their blood pressure fell and their insulin sensitivity improved. (Mastroiacovo et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2015)
- A Cochrane review of dozens of studies found a small short-term fall in blood pressure (2 to 3 mmHg) with flavanol-rich cocoa. (Ried et al., Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2017)
Blueberries
- People with metabolic syndrome ate 150 grams of blueberries every day for six months. Their blood vessel function improved and their arteries became less stiff. (Curtis et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2019)
- 122 adults aged 65 to 80 took a wild blueberry extract or a placebo every day for six months. After three months their episodic memory was better than that of the placebo group. (Whyte et al., Nutrients, 2018)
Spirulina
- A meta-analysis of 12 studies found lower triglycerides and lower diastolic blood pressure. (Huang et al., Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity, 2018)
- In overweight adults, spirulina was linked to lower total and LDL cholesterol, lower triglycerides and higher HDL cholesterol. (Frontiers in Nutrition, 2025)
Chlorella
- A meta-analysis of 10 studies found lower total and LDL cholesterol. (Complementary Therapies in Medicine, 2022)
Turmeric
- A meta-analysis of 11 studies with 1,258 people with knee osteoarthritis found less pain with curcuminoids. (Complementary Therapies in Medicine, 2021)
- A review of ten meta-analyses with 5,870 participants in total found lower CRP, a measure of inflammation in the blood. (Umbrella meta-analysis, 2023)
Goji berries
- Adults aged 45 to 65 ate 28 grams of goji berries five times a week for three months. The protective pigment in their retina (macular pigment) increased. (Li et al., Nutrients, 2021)
Açaí
- 23 men drank an açaí smoothie with a high-fat breakfast. Two hours later their blood vessels worked better than after a control smoothie. (Alqurashi et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2016)
Coenzyme Q10, which Jesse also wrote about early on:
- 420 people with severe heart failure took 300 mg of Q10 a day or a placebo for two years. Serious cardiac events occurred in 14% of the Q10 group against 25% of the placebo group. Death from cardiovascular disease was 9% against 16%. (Q-SYMBIO, JACC: Heart Failure, 2014)
Newer subjects Jesse writes about today are being studied more and more as well:
Creatine and the brain
- A meta-analysis found better memory in adults aged 66 to 76 who took creatine. (Prokopidis et al., Nutrition Reviews, 2023)
- A second meta-analysis found better scores on memory, attention and processing speed in adults. (Frontiers in Nutrition, 2024)
NAD+
- Studies in people show that NAD+ precursors such as nicotinamide riboside are safe and raise NAD+ levels in the body. What that means for health and ageing is now being researched. (Journals of Gerontology, 2024)
Most of these studies were small, and not every study found the same thing.
BioProfile works with a medical panel of six PhDs who together underpin not only the reference values for blood testing but also the verification of published articles.
Jesse has gone through more than one complete health transformation. In 2022 Jesse was close to burnout and chose to fully recover within 100 days. These photos show Jesse at the start and at the end of those 100 days.
